First class qualifying for McAleer
Less than two weeks after a massive highside during a testing session at Cadwell Park, which looked like it might put the Omagh College student Nicole McAleer on the sidelines, she was back on track and in action in the National Metzeler Superstock 600 Championship at Cadwell Park. The eighteen year old was participating in a test session in order to get in some extra track time and help set up the Triumph when she suffered a massive highside which caused the tank of the Triumph to smash and badly bruise her leg, but determined not to let the accident pull her down, she bounced back this weekend for the fourth round of the Championship.
As always with each session on the track she gained in both confidence and speed and the final session on track on Saturday evening was no different. She was 19th on the grid for the "shoot out" race but was soon on the move, eventually taking 17th place at the chequered flag. Disappointed not to make it into the actual race on Sunday, she now goes into the few weeks break safe in the knowledge that she is getting faster every round and is now heading to one of her favourite tracks for the next round in July, and that is Knockhill where she had a number of excellent results in the 125GP championship.
The Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship riders will be sitting out the MCE Insurance British Superbike round at Mallory Park on 27th June 2010 as there is not enough room in the cramped paddock at Mallory for the Superstock riders, but they will not lose out as they will have a double header at a later round.
If you can make it to Knockhill on 4th July you will see McAleer in action.
Cadwell
Well if you were at Cadwell park for the weekened I'm guessing you probably got very burnt and saw some amazing racing through-out the whole weekened because everyone was on pace. Practice I was sitting 15th-17th during the whole session doing 1.39's which was two seconds off my quickest lap from a couple of weeks ago, but sadly I crashed at the chicane and did some damage to my foot which made me go to hospital for a x-ray. I got the all clear and was back out riding this weekened, and doing my bucket of ice treatment due to the swelling coming back after riding.
First qualifying I did a 1.37 leaving me 21st and I was happy that I got back down to a good-ish time from my crash, and in the second qualifying up until a couple of laps to go I was stuck on a 37.0 and then I did a 1.36.6 leaving me 26th and in the shoot out race starting 18th. I got quite a good start until everyone got up to speed, then I was dropped before the first corner leaving me last and having to push my hardest. In the end I finished 17th doing two good passes on the last lap and I did a 1.36.5 which was my quickest lap of the weekened so I was happy enough with that.
Hopefully Knockhill will see me back in the main race fighting for a good result.
Cheers, Nicole #69
