UN PODIUM POUR LESIEUR LORS DE LA 1ERE MANCHE DU NATIONAL PARTS CANADA, ICAR (MIRABEL) (english version below)
La première manche du championnat canadien de Superbike s’est déroulée au circuit ICAR de Mirabel le weekend dernier. Geneviève Lesieur était en piste pour la manche du Women's Canadian Championship (WCC) et pour l'épreuve de Pro600.
L'épreuve féminine se tient tout juste avant la course de Pro600. Geneviève prend le départ de la troisième place sur la grille; elle veut plus que tout conserver ses énergies pour la course importante, celle du Pro600, mais elle se doit de performer puisque la compétition en classe WCC est féroce et très relevée. Malgré un départ raté, Geneviève réussit tout de même à garder sa troisième place; elle se retrouve coincée derrière la deuxième pendant quelques tours, mais réussit à la doubler et à s'échapper. Trop peu, trop tard, la meneuse avait creusé un écart trop grand pour être rattrapé. Geneviève signe tout de même une deuxième place à ICAR.
Après les cérémonies de podium, Geneviève Lesieur remonte sur sa moto et se place sur la grille de départ pour l'épreuve Pro600. Le vert est donné et Geneviève prend un départ canon. Elle est très rapide en ligne droite et manie bien sa moto dans les virages. Toutefois, un compétiteur accroche la moto de la pilote québécoise, en arrache le carénage (fairing) et lui écrase le pied. Avec l'adrénaline, elle ne ressent pas la douleur et tente de poursuivre l’épreuve. En arrivant au deuxième virage, deux pilotes tombent et Geneviève tente de ralentir et se rend alors compte que son levier de vitesse n'a pas survécu à l'impact du tour précédent.
Geneviève tente de retourner aux puits, sa moto bloquée en troisième vitesse, mais la douleur de son pied était si intense qu'elle est forcée de s'arrêter en bordure de piste, dans un endroit sécuritaire. L'ambulance est alors envoyée pour cueillir la pilote, une chance, elle n'a rien de cassé! Heureuse de ce dénouement, elle profite du drapeau rouge pour retourner aux puits et réparer sa moto. Pari réussi, elle rejoint le peloton lors du tour de chauffe, mais doit prendre le nouveau départ de la dernière place. Elle parvient à battre son record personnel de l'an dernier de 3,4 secondes au deuxième tour et enregistre son meilleur tour du weekend avec un chrono dans les 1,30 secondes.
Ne pouvant garder le rythme puisqu'elle ne pouvait pas pousser sa moto à la limite, Geneviève s'est résignée et a choisi de s’'arrêter à la mi-course. Malgré tout, elle est très satisfaite de sa fin de semaine. Avec un podium, des chronos meilleurs qu'à sa dernière présence en piste, le soleil et les fans qui étaient au rendez-vous; Geneviève s'est amusée à fond et n'a que trop hâte de retourner en piste pour la prochaine épreuve.

A PODIUM FOR LESIEUR AT THE 1ST ROUND OF THE PARTS CANADA NATIONAL (ICAR, MIRABEL)
ICAR, located near Mirabel, QC, hosted the first round of Superbike Canadian Championship last weekend. Geneviève Lesieur attended and was competing in the Women's Canadian Championship (WCC) as well as in the Pro600 race.
The WCC race took place before the Pro600 and Geneviève was third on the grid. Although she wanted to keep her stamina for the Pro600 race, she knew she still had to perform at her best in the WCC race as the competition is quite fierce. In spite of a mediocre start, Geneviève managed to hold on to her third place spot. Caught behind the second-placed rider for a few laps, she finally managed to overtake her and started to chase down the race leader.. but it was too little, too late, though, as the leader had too much of a lead to mount a challenge. Nevertheless, Geneviève got the second spot on the podium at ICAR.
Not long after the WCC's podium ceremony, Geneviève was on track for the Pro600 race. She managed a rocket-fast start, speeding down the front straight and handling her bike deftly in the curves. However, another racer bumped into Geneviève's bike, ripping the fairing off of it and running over her foot. With all the adrenaline pumping in her blood, she didn't feel the pain and pushed on. As the two racers entered turn two, Geneviève tried to slow down but realized that the bike’s shifter did not survive the last lap's incident!
By then the pain in her foot was so intense that Geneviève was forced to stop near the edge of the track, in a safe spot, instead of going back to the pit. The ambulance was dispatched to her rescue... Fortunately, nothing was broken! Relieved by the news, she took advantage of the red flag to effect repairs on the bike. She managed to be ready on time but had to take the restart from the last spot on the grid. Geneviève still managed to pulverize last year's personal best laptime by 3.4 seconds on the second lap as well as beat her best lap of the weekend by 1.3 seconds.
Unfortunately, Geneviève had to abandon mid-race, as she could not maintain a good rhythm and continue to push her bike to the limit. All in all, she is quite satisfied with the weekend's results. A second spot on the podium, much better lap times than last year's, the sun and the cheering crowd: Geneviève had a blast and is more than impatient to be on track for the next round!
