Formula Xtreme Championship - Round 3 - Eastern Creek - NSW - July 2010
I was looking forward to racing at Eastern Creek as it is my home track and I know it like a best friend, although not to my liking I have seen the grass and gravel up close and personal in probably too many corners. Yet it still is my favourite track on the circuit and it is where I am most confident. Once again it was full grids for both classes of approx 35 guys and me the only girl. Friday was practice day where I brought the trusty Yamaha R6 along with the new member of the family - my Yamaha R1.
I spent the day on the 600cc getting up to speed as I was planning on busting out a personal best lap time this weekend. The 1000cc was out for its full second day getting to know its new owner so I wasn't planning on getting any lap records that's for sure - I just wanted to become familiar with the extra 400cc of power! The day was great - I felt very confident on both bikes by the end of it and I was ready to race. I was only racing the R6 on Saturday and leaving Sunday to race both bikes in back to back races so I knew I had my work cut out for me.
I struggled in qualifying on Saturday on the R6 due to the damp track so I didn't get as far up on the qualifying grid as I had hoped. This meant I started racing behind some slower riders and overtaking is not my strong point so I struggled to get past.
My results weren't what I had planned but on Sunday I picked up my skill level and did my best to overtake other riders and carve them up! It was a stretch racing two bikes and my fitness levels need to increase that's for sure. In the morning it wasn't looking positive to get the R1 on track as we found out she had a cracked fork leg right before qualifying but thanks to the Yamaha Race Team they quickly sorted it out and replaced it for me so I was ready to rock. No question though, it was so exciting racing the 1000cc, I can't believe how much power she has, but it isn't as agile and easy to corner as the 600cc so I had to be careful not to go too fast into the turns as I was afraid I wouldn't be able to pull the big girl up! I surprised myself with my efforts on the R1 as I ended up coming 2nd overall for the C grade riders and won as nice new trophy. I ended up with a personal best lap time on the R6 of 1.39.3 and the best lap time on the R1 was a 1.40.8.
Currently placed 5th in the C graders in the 600cc Championship
