Knockhill sees improvement for McAleer

After a six week lay off from racing action, during which time McAleer changed her racing leathers for the orange overalls of the marshalls for the British Grand Prix last month and of course finished her college assignments and enjoyed some of the Northern Ireland sunshine, she was back in action at one of her favourite race tracks, Knockhill in Scotland.

With a good rest after her off during a trackday at Cadwell Park in May, McAleer was back on the pace and was as always improving during each session on track, but just narrowly missed qualifying for the main Metzeler National Superstock 600 race by less than a second but still got a race, when she was given a second chance to qualify for the two main races, as Knockhill was to be a double header. Unfortunately, despite running a fast pace and passing a number of riders during the last couple of laps, a hold off for the Omagh teenager on the opening lap proved to be a bit too much for her to claw back during the brief eight lap race. She was eventually 17th in the shoot out and had the satisfaction of knowing that her early season pace is back and she was only 0.3 seconds away from the time of the final qualifier for the main race.

McAleer was probably lucky that she got her race on Saturday evening in the dry as the main race on Sunday was held in wet conditions, whilst the second race was cancelled when the organiser's MSV Racing had to take the tough decision to abandon the reminder of the day's racing when the wind and rain took hold. She now looks forward to the next round of the Championship in two weeks time when the BSB circus rolls back down South to Norfolk and the ex airfield of Snetterton.
