I will give you a brief rundown on what has been going on lately.
I finished the 2010 NZ championships in 2nd place in the 125gp class. Unfortunatley not the win we were hoping for, it was a hard fought season and we learnt a lot from it. We had a bit of a rough run at the South island rounds, although I improved my consistancy from last year I wasn't able to fight for the lead as often so we came into the North Island rounds with a huge points deficit to the lead. I managed to take my first win of the season at Manfeild in Feilding, which was a great feeling and something I had definitely been missing, ha ha. Then we headed to Hampton Downs; my new home track. I love that place! The elevation changes and blind corners are something different for New Zealand circuits, but it is so much fun to ride although we didn't have quite the weekend I was hoping for. I slipped into 3rd place for the series before the final race but a 2nd placing in the final race, also the NZ Tourist Trophy, put me into 2nd overall after one of my main competitors crashed. Thanks to Paul Cook, Greg Carr and Geoff and Gaye Ward who helped out over the weekend, it was a good end to the season for us.
I enjoyed being pitted with Honda Racing NZ over the season, and also have to say a huge thank you to all my other sponsors who made this year's championship series possible. Be sure to check them out on my sponsors page. Also big thanks to my Mum and Dad, John Connor and Craig and Hayden who helped me out throughout the championship!
After nationals I had a ride on a 600cc bike which I really enjoyed! It was at Pukekohe Raceway, so it was really fun to get it wound up down that long back straight. I took it really easy at first, but by the end of the day I felt pretty comfortable and was having a blast. Most of my fellow 125 competitors are moving up to the 600 Supersport or Superstock classes this season, but we are a little unsure of what I will be doing as we are still trying to put a budget together.
In April I had an operation to remove the metalware from my leg and was advised not to ride until the bone had filled the screw holes in, so sadly I haven't dragged a knee since. The leg is now feeling great and I can't wait to get back on a bike in the coming months. I have been keeping busy with schoolwork and training but my weekends have been pretty boring in comparison to blasting around a racetrack!
I'll keep you guys updated on what I get up to.
