Round 5 - Mallory Park (27/06/10)
With the frame still away for a bit of Uri Geller treatment Jeff swapped in a previously crash repaired '96 frame we had tucked away in the loft in case of emergency and we were up and running for Mallory Park.
Being my worst track for results I really wanted to crack the circuit once and for all this weekend. It proved a tough challenge though. I was losing so much time around the new chicane I probably could've unicycled through it quicker and with a slightly different angle on the headstock we spent some time trying out various adjustments to try to get the bike to feel more like the old one. In the end I couldn't match my pace from last year and had to settle for 23rd on the grid.
This put me in the "pot luck" part of the pack in terms of making it around the first lap and I guess I was lucky in that I made it to the end of the race. After a good start off the line I got caught up in the bottleneck at Charlies chicane, narrowly missed hitting somone at Edwinas before being hit going into the hairpin. Then to cap it off I ran straight on at the hairpin a lap later in all the frustration from the places I'd lost and just lost a few more! After a few laps of clawing back through the pack an incident at Charlies brought the pace car out resulting in no overtaking until it pulled in on the penultimate lap. I then snatched one more place to end up where I started, 23rd! On the plus side I managed to set a personal best lap time - and of course I got to take the bike home in one piece!
