10th/11th/12th September 2010. CROFT BSB
Mid September and my big brother and I took the three hour journey to Croft for the BSB. :D My mum and dad travelled down on Thursday morning to get set up and we went down at night.
Friday practices. I woke up and it was dry and I couldn't wait to get on my bike. I was getting two 20 minute sessions. I only did around 7 laps just to make sure my bike was running well and get my head back into the track. We stripped and checked my bike and all was good so I was all ready for practice 2.
In practice two I was getting used to all the small bumps and lumps in the track again. It was amazing getting out with the BSB people again. :D
Saturday morning I woke up to rain battering on the caravan roof. :( It was definitely going to be wets. Eventually it stopped raining but the track was still very wet in some areas and damp in others, so I decided to put inters on so I would be safe either way. I had a good wee run round trying to tag onto people. Unfortunetly I didn't qualify, but hopefully it would dry up and I would have a chance in qualifying 2.
Qualifying 2 was dry and I was chuffed as I was a lot better in the dry than I was in the wet at Croft. It was surprisingly windy round the back so we had to be careful. I was glad I qualified for the Sunday race. I was already guaranteed a race on the Saturday night. (The race that was cancelled from Knockhill.) So after working hard to qualify for Sunday I had a race on Saturday night.
Saturday race. We all lined up on the grid, and I was really excited but nervous too. I was on the last row of the grid but still pleased to be there. I got a pretty good start and was a fair bit forward than I was on the grid.
It was going great until I saw a couple of spits of rain on my visor... then a couple more... then wooshh! It was red flagged and we were pulled in to change the tyres. Before I knew it I was back sitting on the grid and it was going to be a totally different race now that it was wet. So off we went again and we were all having a good wee battle until the red flag went out again... someone had crashed at the hairpin and so they decided to call it a result. I was pleased with my efforts for the day and was really looking forward to Sunday!
Sunday. I was soo excited for the race! I couldn't believe it was finally there. Sitting on the grid with those guys was so weird because I'm not watching them all line up while sitting on the couch. :) - I'm actually in there with them.
The lights went red & then we were off... 14 laps. I was soo proud for my start. I was up with the pack in front of me. I had got a new back tyre for this race so I could push extra hard.
The first few laps for me went a bit slow, as I tried to find my rhythm and stay in it. I was really excited and found it hard to concentrate at the beginning. I started to chase three bikes in front of me as I could see they were holding each other up. I managed to pass the first two in a couple of laps but the leading bike wasn't giving up the fight in a hurry. There was around 6 laps to go and I knew the guys behind me were catching us so I made my move and tried to get away. I saw +1 and then +2 on my pit board so I could stop taking defensive lines and go fast. :D
Two laps to go and I was getting ready for a bunch of bikes flying past me, but it was only two bikes that came past. I was starting to feel a little tired nearer the end so I was so glad when I finished the race and crossed the line. It was such a fun race and I dropped another one or two seconds off my qualifying time.
After we got packed up and ready to go we went and watched the last couple of races of the day! I had a great weekend and thanks to everyone who helped out. :D
