First class qualifying for McAleer

Nicole McAleer celebrated reaching the milestone of becoming an adult last Friday, when she celebrated her 18th birthday by moving up into the National Metezler Superstock 600 Championship. Despite not being able to really party this weekend McAleer is on cloud nine, when she stole the show in qualifying today for the opening round of the Championship.

McAleer was flying during final qualifying today for the opening round, the 18 year old was on the pace, but on the final lap of qualifying she rocketed up the field, to the delight of all in the Splash Racing team and the BSB Commentary team of "Scoop and Fred", moving from 21st place in the Group B, up to an amazing 13th place, which secured her 26th place on the grid and ensuring that she didn't have to go into the "shoot out" race which is a last chance for another ten riders to qualify.

The Omagh college student was delighted to qualify in her first ever Superstock 600 race and what a way to celebrate her 18th. She said afterwards; "I just went for it and I am so relieved, it still hasn't really sunk in yet." Here's hoping she can follow up an exciting qualifying session with an equally exciting race tomorrow at 2pm for a 22 laps race which is being shown live on Eurosport2. Of course she will also create history tomorrow when she becomes the first female to race in this Championship.
